I Was Late

I was late to church yesterday.  I was late to church last week, too.  This is not a good trend to get going.

Why was I late?

Well, I have changed my running schedule around a little bit.  My long run of the week now falls on a Wednesday (except for this week, I am going to do it on Thursday…) and I have been taking the day before the long run as a rest day.

On my training schedule, my rest day is supposed to fall on Sunday.  I have been taking my Tuesday runs and plugging them into the Sunday slot.  All has been going fine until the runs suddenly started getting longer.  Oops.

MFH (My Favorite Husband) always makes pancakes for us on Sunday mornings.  A nice, special breakfast that we look forward to each week.  We linger over breakfast, enjoy each others company and a cup of coffee.  Next thing I do is look at my watch and go, “Oh no!  Look at the time!  I’ve got to run!” and I zoom around the house getting ready for my run and head on out the door.

This is going to have to change. This week.

My Sunday morning runs are going to jump from a nice 8 miler to a 10 miler.  That is going to take me around 2 hours because the weather is warming up and I don’t want to push it too hard in the heat.  This means that MFH is going to have to set out a water stop for me mid point and meet me at the end of the run.

So, what do I do?  I am going to have to set an alarm.  Well, in reality, I could get up when Peter, my Rooster, starts crowing (3:45 am this morning), but I really do not need to get up quite THAT early.  MFH is going to have to get those pancakes ready an hour earlier than usual.  And no lingering over the coffee, either!

10 miles on a Sunday morning.  Something to look forward to, right!?!  Sure hope I stay awake during the sermon.  HA!
