Our church has been without a head minister for almost 1 1/2 years. During this time, we have had different people come in and fill the pulpit for Sunday mornings and then Sunday evenings and Wednesday evenings, our Assistant minister has filled in.
He has worked hard and has been “Johnny on the Spot.”
A couple of weeks ago we had a guy come in and candidate/preach for the head minister spot. He did a pretty good job and the congregation voted unanimously for him to come and be our head minister. Problem solved.
We have been waiting to hear news as to when the new guy would be moving and taking up his position at our church. We are still waiting for the date on that. It should not be too long.
This past Thursday we received a letter in the mail from the church. We thought it would contain the information about the new guy. It started out about how change is a constant in life…blah, blah, blah… Then it cut to the chase.
This is what the letter said, I am not quoting it verbatim but giving you the general idea of the content.
…..Seeing as how attendance has been down during our time of transition, we do not see how we can be fiscally responsible and support two full time ministers. So, as soon as the new guy arrives, the assistant minister will be let go.
Holy Cow!!! Now, that was a shocker!!!
I guess no matter where you work, or how good a job you do, your hold on your job is tenuous at best, huh?
