We Are A Radio Station!

Today’s Run:  10.45 miles

What a lovely, lovely morning for a run.  It was 42 F.  Sunny skies.  Brisk Northerly wind.   The new highway is not yet open for traffic so I took advantage of that fact and “hit the road.”  It was glorious!!!  But enough about running.  I have news!

My husband and I received approval from the FCC for us to own and operate a low-power FM radio station!  This has been in the works since last September.

If you recall, back in September, we began a non-profit agency and I am on the board!  On the board of a non-profit agency!  Me!  How unreal is that!?!

Our non-profit and radio station is called Classic Book Radio.  We are a bit concerned about illiteracy here in Mississippi and would like to do something to whet the appetites of youth and adults alike in our community to read!  Hence, Classic Book Radio was formed.

We will have readings of classic literature, essays, poetry, children’s classics….Moby Dick, Pride and Prejudiced, Winnie the Pooh, Grimm’s Fairy Tales, an eclectic mixture of literature.  Hopefully, somebody will listen and get hooked on a story and go to the library and read for his/herself!  That is our objective.

We next need to get a radio call sign.  We are trying to decide between WRTM and WCMH.  WRTM stands for W-Read, To, Me. and the other one is our initials put together.  I do not know if the FCC has a WMFH for W-My Favorite Husband.  That would be fun, too!  Then we have 18 months for a building permit.

The building permit gives us time to procure necessary equipment to operate a radio station.  We are looking at around $10,000-$15,000 dollars that will need to be scraped together in 18 months.  Yikes!  But because we are a non-profit, we can go around and solicit funds from local businesses, etc.

So, keep your fingers crossed for us.  The next 18 months are going to be a whirl-wind!
