Brrr!!!

Today’s Run:  10.00 miles

We heat our house with a gas fireplace.  Each Fall we fill a propane tank with gas and use it to heat primarily the living room.  The bedrooms stay cool as we are not in them during the day and like it a bit chilly when we sleep.

We have been having a little bit of trouble with the fireplace this season.  The pilot light keeps going out and we do not know about it until the house gets cold.  This happens at the most inconvenient times.  Times when it is really cold outdoors and you would like it to be warm in your house.

See, we ran the propane tank down to absolutely empty last season.  There was not a drop left over.  I think that we introduced air pockets into the line that feeds the propane to the house.  It is my theory that an air pocket reaches the house and then “Poof!” the pilot light goes out and we get cold.

Last night the temperature went down to 21 F. outdoors.  The pilot light decided that that would be a terrific time to go out. I was not impressed.  Of course I did not know about this until I woke up this morning and was very, very cold.  It got down to 62 F. in the house.  Brrr!  My husband quickly got the pilot light going again (that is never a problem, it lights up easily) and it has been going cheerfully all day.  That is good.  The house is now a cozy 70 F.

It is not supposed to get super duper cold tonight.  That 21 F. was extremely cold for Mississippi.  A fluke even. Tonight we are supposed to only get down to 42 F.  That’s more like it!

The chickens were NOT impressed with the cold snap last night either.  Their water froze over!  They were disgruntled when I fed them this morning.  I broke the ice for them, gave them some Scratch Grain, Layer Pellets and homemade bread.  They are so spoiled!  Feeding them the Scratch Grain is supposed to turn on their little internal heating system and keep them warm during the Winter.  Sure hope it helps!

Enough of cold snaps and chickens.  I am taking a poll today.  We are having Thanksgiving Dinner for the family at my house this year.  I love the holidays~especially Christmas.  I guess I am just a kid at heart.  The question is…Do I have the Christmas Tree up for the Thanksgiving meal or do I wait to put it up after everyone goes home?  Decisions, decisions…
