Today’s Run: Rest Day
I made an analogy to my husband during our 18+ mile run this past Saturday. He mentioned to me that we do all this training…mile after mile after mile and then, a few hours of discomfort and then BOOM! it is done.
“Yup.” I told him. That is exactly what being pregnant is like. You carry that baby around in you for 9 months, a few hours of discomfort and then “BOOM!” it is done!
Well, maybe not exactly.
In the marathon training, you have rest days. In pregnancy, you either have a “bun in the oven” or you do not.
In marathon training, you have light days and hard days. In pregnancy, you are either expecting, or you are not.
In marathon training, you do your run of the day and then you are done for the day…in pregnancy, you are either “with child” or you are not.
Pregnancy seems to be the more difficult of the two options. When you are done with your marathon, you can decided to quit running if you like. Once you have the baby, you have 3:00 am feedings, diapers to change, Dr. appointments…you have a person to raise to become a productive citizen!
What would you rather do? I chose to do both!
My two children are 24 (this month) and 25 years old. They are great people and I am very proud of them! They, likewise are cheering my husband and myself on in our pseudo pregnancy~that of training and running a marathon together.
This race has been a bonding experience for our entire family! Our daughter will accompany us to Maine and cheer us from the sidelines. Our son (a student) has mid-terms that week. He will move into our house for that time and babysit animals for us. It is a family affair!
So, yes, running a marathon can be kinda like expecting but having it both ways, having your adult children participate in such a huge undertaking is extra, extra special!
