Today’s Run: 18 miles
Today was a milestone run. Epic. Breakthrough. A turning point even~in our marathon training. 18 miles. 4 1/2 hrs. No matter how you look at it, we ran a long way and a long time.
We took this run S-L-O-W. I am not speedy under the best conditions but I wanted to take our time this morning. I did not know how tired I would get or if I would “bonk”. I wanted to be as prepared as possible. So we got an early start.
We left on our run at 4:45. It was already 75 F. and 93% humidity. That made the run that much more of a challenge. Fortunately, living in Mississippi, we are “acclimated” to heat and humidity (and I have a bridge I can sell you!). We are used to dealing with those types of weather conditions and trudged ahead.
Things learned today:
18 miles is a very, very long way to run.
A gas station attendant will gladly sell you Gatorade very early in the morning.
The lady probably would have hit me with her car if I had not have moved. (On purpose, too!)
18 miles is a very, very long way to run.
Plan for water stops a bit better.
I cannot complain one bit about how today’s run went. I am content in a job well done.
Am I sore? Kinda~more creaky than sore.
Would I do it again? Most definitely. How about next Friday! Eleven weeks until the race!
