Today’s Run: Going to the Museum
I dabble in oils~painting. I have been painting seriously since 2000. We have many of my paintings hanging on the walls of our home and friends and family (most of them) are brave enough to hang them in their homes as well. So, when my husband heard about the Mississippi Museum of Art having a traveling show of the “Old Masters to Monet”~we hopped in the car and went. Today.
Wow~ There were some seriously famous paintings at this showing! The self portrait of Van Gogh and Claude Monet’s “Beach at Trouville” were my two favorites. They left me speechless and not a little bit jealous. Monet and his “dot, dot, dot” technique…frustrates me to no end trying to mimic that! I guess that is why he is Monet and I am not!
Even the paintings that were not “famous” were outstanding! Way out of my league~depressing? No! Motivating!
Most were landscapes or portraits which I found very interesting. Only three still lifes that I can recall. I paint mostly still lifes. Easier. You set up the composition and leave it set up until you are done. These guys painted from real people and places.
I’ve tried portraits…Epic Fail. Landscapes are do-able. I just do not enjoy them. Still lifes…Yes! And nine times out of ten, you can even tell what they are!!! Success!!!
So, we had an awesome time on the road to Jackson, Mississippi. I totally blew my diet out the window. I will have to behave myself the next couple of days to make up for today in that area. But, it was worth it!
Here is my favorite painting from today: Claude Monet’s “Beach at Trouville” 1870~oil on canvas. Outstanding!
