Go! Go!! Go!!!

Today’s Run:  5.50 miles

I thought those were the last words I would ever hear my husband say to me.  “Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!”.

We were running to our favorite destination this morning, Schaeffer’s Chapel.  They are making Highway 45 S. just West of Columbus, Mississippi, into a four lane Highway instead of just a two lane.  We live right off of this Highway (about 2 miles South) and to get to Schaeffer’s Chapel, we must cross the Highway.

We had been crossing the Highway right near our house but due to the road construction, this was no longer feasible.  This meant a two mile run on Highway 45 S.

Highway 45 S. is a heavily traveled road and its speed limit is set at 55 MPH~ which means everyone is driving at 70 MHP.  One particular spot, the spot where we ran into a tight spot this morning, is a bridge.  Running along the Highway is not a problem (in my book).  There is a reasonable shoulder to the road so you do not feel pressure from passing motorists to jump for safety.  But the bridge…

The bridge is about 400 yards long and there is no shoulder.  It is a two lane bridge with traffic going opposite directions in each lane.  You have your dotted line down the middle, the white lines on the sides and the concrete barriers right up next to the white line.  That leaves you, the runner, without a place to hop off the road should traffic get tight.

This morning, on our return trip, we reached the bridge and all of a sudden, there was traffic coming from both directions.  If we really moved, we might make it across the bridge in time.  IF…

I am not a fast runner.  Never have been.  But this morning, my feet had wings!  We were about half way across the bridge when we knew that unless we really started moving, we were going to be squished.  My husband yelled (he never yells!), “Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!”.  And I ran!!!

I took a peek at my Garmin (couldn’t help it!) and I was doing a 10 min mile!  Wowee!!!  I have never run that fast in all my life!  But, I heard the urgency in his voice, and he was behind me, which meant he would get off the bridge after me, and I ran even harder.

Well, I am writing this blog, so you know we made it~But, Wow!  What a run!!!
