Today’s Run: 3.50 miles
We started off the 4th of July with a bang! We went on our scheduled run. It was 75 F. and 88% humidity,. Sticky. It was a fast run because we had company arriving early.
Our company began arriving at 9:30 a.m. I sent them on an errand to purchase three bags of ice for the days festivities. So, off they went. While they were gone, I put the finishing touches on everything else around the house.
As soon as they (my husband and son) arrived back with the ice, the rest of the company arrived( my parents, my sister, her husband their their three children). My husband fired up the grill and began the BBQ. I set up the patio tables and chairs and then the rain began. Oops. Rats!
We figured that it would clear off pretty fast. Nope. It picked up in intensity. Hmmm….We moved our plans inside. Everyone was a good sport. I mean, we had ten people in a 16 sq ft house. It was a little crowded. The dog was pretty well behaved and the cats stayed outdoors somewhere. They wanted no part of our party. And a party it was!
Not only were we celebrating the 4th of July, we were also celebrating my nephew’s 15th birthday! HaPpY BiRtHdAy!!! We had this killer chocolate cake, candles, cards with cash…cannot beat that! My nephew was a happy camper seeing as he went home $100.00 richer than when he arrived.
But the fireworks. Now that presented a problem. We were able to light the firecrackers. As soon as we gave them a toss and they landed on the wet ground, they went out. This was a dilemma. Finally, my BIL devised a way to use an umbrella and a little bit of unsafe lighting practices to get the bottle rockets and fire crackers to go off and make a lot of noise! Seeing as he is a Nuclear Physicist, we trusted him implicitly! Probably dumb on all our parts~But a heckuva lot of fun!!!
After everyone went home late this afternoon, the rain stopped. Does not that figure? My husband checked his weather station and discovered that we had received 2.78″ of rain while we were all gathered here. That is a lot of rain!
We ate a lot, fed the leftover watermelon to the chickens (who really like watermelon by the way) lit off the fireworks, cleaned up the kitchen and then everyone went home.
It is now quiet at our house. But it is a nice quiet! A restful quiet. I am sure the neighbors are enjoying the quiet also. Little do they know that I still have a few fireworks left over for later this evening *evil grin!
