“Not Much~You”?

Today’s Run:  55 min lifting at the “Y”

We enjoy listening to Public Radio.  Or at least we used to.  We are finding that the list of favorite shows is dwindling.  We used to be huge “A Prairie Home Companion” fans.  That is until the M.C. got up on a soap box about his political stance.

Our next favorite show was “The Story”.  It was enjoyable.  They interviewed “real people”, had a great format~a nice program.  The only problem with that was the time of day.  It was late evening.   Then they changed the format and we quit listening to it.

There was always Terry Gross with “Fresh Air” and Tom Ashbrook with “On Point” but those shows are a little bent and you have to be in a certain frame of mind to listen to them.  You simply cannot take those shows seriously or you will get angry.  And, they were on late at night.

Our locally produced shows are pretty good!  We listen to them often.  Mississippi Public Radio does a very good job producing morning shows for the 9:00 a.m. time slot.   On Monday’s they have the show “Relatively Speaking” which is a mental health(ish) type of call in show.  On Tuesday’s they produce “Money Talks” which is a financial show (and totally depressing because they keep saying to “SAVE!”).  Wednesday’s is “Southern Remedy”.  This is another call in medical show.  Thursday is the local favorite, Creature comforts.  A call in show about pet health.  And Friday is “The Gestalt Gardener”, a horticultural show.  These are all well produced shows.

Why cannot the rest of Public Radio have quality shows like this?

As far as Nationally syndicated shows, the only one left that we listen to is “Whad’ya Know?”  The show beings with the M.C. asking that question…”Whad’ya Know?”, to which everyone in the audience replies…”Not Much! You?” and the show proceeds from there.  It is light and entertaining.  Seeing as the show is produced in Madison, Wisconsin, the politics lean a little to the left and sometimes leave us wincing a bit but it is all clean fun.
