Cheaper By The Dozen

Today’s Run:  45 min lifting at the “Y” and a TON of cleaning!

We have been collecting eggs from the hens now for two weeks (2 1/2?).  They are laying beautiful brown eggs about the size of a large egg you would purchase from the grocery store.  These are their “pullet” eggs.

Pullet eggs are from chickens who are just getting the hang of laying eggs. They are noticeably smaller than regular eggs and can even occasionally be quite tiny as the hens work out their learning curve.  These hens, once they get the “hang of laying” will be laying extra-large to jumbo size brown eggs.  That sounds good to me!

Some of the eggs are beginning to increase in size already.  It is fun to watch them get larger and try to guess who is laying them.

We have received approximately two dozen eggs from “The Ladies”.  They are quite proud of themselves as we are of them.  Today, though, was a crowing achievement.  We had enough surplus eggs to completely fill a dozen egg carton!

Are not those about the prettiest eggs you have ever seen?  And they taste mighty fine, too!

So, thanks and kudos to “The Ladies” for their fine, fine work!
