Today’s Run: Ham Radio Testing
Today we took off for Vernon, Alabama. My husband and I, as you know, are Amateur Radio Operators and my husband is a high mucky-muck kind of a person who actually administers the exams that people must take to become a “ham”.
We arrived at the testing site only to discover that it was actually the county jail! We thought, surely this was the wrong place! But, nope~the jail was the correct place. We had one side of the building and the people in the “service of the state” had the other side. Interesting experience. I had never been to a jail before. I just lead a sheltered life, I guess.
There were six people there to take the test. They were nervous. We got there a little early and they were all sitting around eating fried chicken, potato salad and baked beans. We walked in and they all got quiet. Like I said, they were nervous. It was funny to think that we could spoil someone’s dinner just because they were nervous about a little test.
Everyone but one person passed! That is pretty good because those exams are not easy! So congratulations to all the new hams out there today!!!
Other exciting news is that this was my first official day as W5MSH. Last night I received my notification that my request for a vanity call sign was approved and I am very excited!!!
