MFH (My Favorite Husband) and I live on the Prairie of Mississippi. We are in the East Central part of Mississippi, about 10 miles from the Alabama border.
Today, we had an opportunity to drive to the Delta to visit our son. The Delta is on the Western side of Mississippi. The Mississippi Delta~the Delta of the Mississippi river.
The Prairie is lovely rolling hills. Lots and lots of trees. Lumber is a Huge industry where I live. In the Delta, Cotton is King! The Delta is Flat. Flat. Flat.
As you drive along Highway 82, right before you reach the town of Greenwood, you go down and very large hill and then BOOM! You are on the Delta. There will not be any doubt in your mind where you are. The change is that abrupt.
Today, February 1, 2014, the farmers were out in their fields, they were plowing, and planting. Planting cotton. It was interesting to me to see just how many tractors-BIG tractors-there were out there.
The Delta does not look like a lucrative part of Mississippi but the machinery we saw out in those fields today was worth a minimum of $90,000.00. That is for an itty bitty tractor~and these were the big tractors. It takes spending money to make money, I guess.
We had a lovely visit with our son. Due to the fact that it is a 2 1/2 hour drive to reach where he is, we were only able to stay a few hours and then drive home. It is always good to get to visit with your adult children! We always count time with them as extra special.
We did board Bozo~I mean the dog, Paxton, for today’s adventure. My sister and her family stopped by after a basketball game to check on the chickens. The water container for the outdoors chickens has sprung a leak and needs to be refilled mid day. The baby chickens are indoors (but not for much longer~YAY!) and eat like there is no tomorrow. They need to be fed a couple of times a day because they empty their food container! Little pigs!!! The cats were outdoors, the bunny was in his cage. Simple.
So, now we are home. A little weary around the edges, but we had a delightful day. It was sunny and in the upper 60’s F. Light breeze. Just a perfect day for travelling and visiting!
