A bit cooler

[Saturday: 4.5 miles; Today: 3.2 miles]

Today was a bit cooler, actually almost pleasant.

This is where Fairgrounds Hardware used to stand.

We also had about a week around labor day that was almost November-ish. It was wonderful. The recent hurricane was supposed to hit us but went west. No problems here, but from 20 miles west of here on to the Gulf coast it was pretty bad. All the weekender\fishing villages on the Gulf will be cleaning and rebuilding for quite a while. It is amazing how fast the hurricane crews from the power companies can get things running again. When the out of town crews are staging in our town it is like watching a military opoeration.

Ages ago, when I was in Minneapolis working in corporate at NSP (now Xcel) they called that bird dogging. One person from the local utility would guide the visiting crews. Crews worked hard when the need arose in all kinds of weather and away from families. I think that work ethic is why on Fridays the service center parking lots would be full of linemen trucks. Especially in deer season. (Another phrase I became familiar with was “don’t bunch up.”)
