Shortly after posting my most recent blog entry last Sunday I had a bit of an issue come up. The “dashboard” for the wordpress blog software said I should do an update to a newer version. I pushed the button to make that happen. But the result was a broken blog.
It took me a while to sort out.
I was able to download all of the blog parts and install wordpress on my Ubuntu laptop and get the issue resolved by doing a manual update. Then I uploaded the working blog to the normal spot on the server and now I am back in good shape.
We had another minor tragedy this week.
You know we like to go rowing and we have a square-ended john boat that we bought last year which we have taken out once that I remember.
I would rather have something that has a V-bottom or some bit of keel.
I saw something called a Cape Dory 10 row/sail boat on Facebook marketplace and we drove up to Amory and bought that. We had our trailer (which came with the john boat). The reviews I had read said it wasn’t very good as a sailboat but was good for rowing. And it has a tiller which means the person in the back could steer instead of saying, “you’re going toward shore” / “you’re going too much to the middle” / etc. etc.
Unfortunately, I did a poor job of securing the boat on the trailer, and while we were on the highway coming back the boat slipped off enough that it was dragging on the pavement for some period of time. Pavement at 60-70 mph makes a heck of a sander. That did nasty things to the fiberglass boat and now I have another project to work on.
That made me sad. To take something functional and even kind of beautiful and mess it up.. and also to add to my project list another task that needs to be done before I can enjoy the benefits I anticipated.. not a fan.
Anyway, like most things these days, there are videos on youtube about how to fix fiberglass on boats. I need to get the materials put together and get started on the repair or we won’t get to use it this summer.

Sorry about your boat mishap. I know you’ll get it all fixed up and be cruising down the Tombigbee in a couple of weeks.
