Rant against CenturyLink

[Today’s run: 3.2 miles]

It’s coming up on two months that my elderly parents have been wrestling with CenturyLink to get their residential phone service repaired.

They have had three service people come out and tinker with it, and since then four no-show appointments. And it still is not usable.

CenturyLink the company now advertises itself as an “IT Service Company” and it is evident that they are not very interested in providing residential phone service.

My parents have lived 61 years in the same house in a well established suburb (with still new houses being built).

It is evident to me that CenturyLink is abandoning residential phone service. I sincerely hope that the state utilities commission gives them a tremendous spanking for doing that.

I agree CL doesn’t want to do anything to maintain residential structure. I was also talking to our cousin in Mville recently and someone had told her CL has three techs for the area now. No wonder no-shows are happening, I’m sure what techs exist are exhausted. The folks should be up and running either tomorrow or Thursday with a new cell phone using the house number. We put them on our plan and it will cost 15% of their CL monthly bill. No internet, but they don’t use it anyway.

You may have to affix a long vinyl coated spiral wire cord to the cell phone and nail the other end to the wall so they feel more at home using it. (Personally, the phone number they have is the only one other than my own that I can say from memory.)

Yelp CL review concerning Internet service (out this way – SF Bay Area – 5G home Internet is creating a lot of competition – price and service pressure – not so in DSM, apparently). 704 words total, pasted in part:

I’m signing onto Yelp to review this company after not writing a review in years because I must warn you that Century Link in Des Moines is completely awful and you must avoid them. If even one person reads this and decides to go to another company instead of CenturyLink, then I will consider the time I took to write this well worth it.

I found the CEO of the parent company of CenturyLink on LinkedIn and sent her a message asking if they really were intending to abandon the residential market in Iowa. To my surprise, she answered! and later a “nice young man” from her personal stock of minions (?) called and talked to me about the issue. So I was very happy that it got some attention. They seem to have not realized that the situation in Des Moines was so dire. Maybe this will help get things turned around.
