Radio station update

[Today’s run: 3.2 miles]

While I was in Iowa we had a power outage at the house. The computers in the radio station shed are on a UPS. But the outage was longer than the battery can hold everything up. So the computers all died.

When I tried to start things remotely I had a couple of problems that really couldn’t be solved via my form of remote access. So I had to wait a few days before I could get things going again.

The new server, which I’ve been off and on working toward, has a feature which lets me participate in the boot process from the beginning. And that would have been very handy.

So I am charged up again about getting things finally switched over.

I have pretty much decided to go with a USB connected external sound interface. I don’t like USB connectors because they don’t have a locking connection: someone could trip over the cable and yank the wire right out. That’s not completely terrible, I just don’t like it.

But it turns out that the software we use for playback works well with the external USB interfaces, so I think that’s where we are going.

I hope to be able to work on it some this weekend.
