Putting up a telephone pole – part 2, the execution

[Today’s run: 3.5 miles]

I eventually came to the conclusion that it was going to be very hard for me to get this pole in the hole by myself.  I was able to dig the hole.  And I could probably have gotten the pole close to the hole.  But getting it stood up was a problem.

So I asked my neighbor if he could help me with his tractor.  He has a loader bucket on the front.  He said no problem.  It took us a couple of weeks to get things coordinated, someone else was borrowing his tractor. But yesterday we got it done.  It took about 15 minutes with the tractor.

So now I have a pole in the ground.  I’ve started digging a trench from the pole to the shed for the underground electric conduit.  I had a couple of ideas on that, but I just decided to start in with the shovel and see how it goes.

(In the picture he is actually lifting a smaller pole section and moving it for me.  The big pole is in the hole.)
