Mississippi other thoughts running

Two Dans

[today’s run: 3.5 miles]

Today was the Boston Marathon and Mississippi State football coach Dan Mullen made it is first marathon.  From the reports I’ve seen, he did ok.

There was an article in the Clarion-Ledger newspaper out of Jackson about him being in the race and his training and such.  And in the article his wife quoted him as making he-man remarks about being a football coach and toughing it out with less than optimal preparation.  (Well, they made it clear that he did prepare, and he finished OK.)  Anyway, that caused some consternation in the household as various facebook runner friends were a bit put out about football coaches being tougher than long distance runners, yadda, yadda, yadda.  Some it was driven by envy since it is very hard to get into the Boston Marathon.  But Mullen had a corporate connection of some sort.

So the Boston Marathon happened and he finished and happy ending.

What I really wanted to say was that I have the hardest time with Mullen’s name.  I keep getting him confused with Dan McCarney who was the Iowa State football coach when I worked there in 1995/1996.  So I was calling Mullen “Dan McCarney” and my wife was correcting me.  I’ve done that before.
