Travel day

[Today’s run: rest day]

I took today off.

I had to take a quick trip to near Clarksdale, MS.  That is over in the Mississippi Delta region, north of Greenwood.  I took 82 west to Greenwood then north on 49 to my destination.

I turned around and came back the same way.  It was about a 3 hour round trip.

US-82 is 4-lane divided highway across Mississippi.  US-49 was two-lane in the flat lands of the delta.

US-82 actually misses a lot of the towns between Starkville and Winona.  I’m not sure why they routed it that way.  Then from Winona to Greenwood there are a lot of hills.  And just east of Greenwood you get into the delta area.

It was an interesting drive.

I have a bad habit of eating while driving.  I ate a whole bunch of stuff, most of it junk food.  If I were ever to drive for a living I would probably lose money with the amount of food I buy and eat.

The day started out a bit rough.  I found a skunk in our live varmit-trap.  I dispatched him without too much trouble.  But I had to put my boots and jacket outside for the rest of the day.  And the back of my truck, used to transport his carcass far away, smells pretty bad.  The varmit trap is unset tonight, letting it air out for at least one day.

After I returned home from my trip, my wife wanted to go in the car to see about some half-grown chickens for sale.  So we have 4 of those guys in a cage in the solarium of the house.

Right now, in the house, we have 1 dog, 2 cats, 1 rabbit, 4 chickens.  Outside we have 7 more chickens and two boxes of bees.  Did I ever tell you about not really being an “animal person”?
