More on TenTec Century 21 power supply repair

I recently received a note from another amateur radio operator, Scott, N4BBB.

He has a TenTec Century 21 radio transceiver and had a problem with the power supply.  An internet search led him to my old post on the subject.

In my case, a trace on the circuit board between the power transformer and the rectifier device burned up. At the time I attributed the problem to the rectifier; that it probably shorted out and caused a high current condition which burned the trace.  One of the contributing factors was a fuse in the power line which was much too high and provided no protection.

Scott sent me an email with pictures showing his Century 21 and an identical fault.  I’m not sure if his rectifier survived or what his fuse situation was.

It’s nice to see that my ramblings are useful to someone occasionally.
