Trimble Placer GPS 450 – power connector

[Today’s run: 2 miles]

I’ve had this pile of Trimble Placer GPS units which I purchased from a sheriff’s department.  These are vehicle tracking GPS boxes.

I bought a Trimble GPS magnetic puck antenna and mounted that outdoors.  I was able to get one of these units to run by taking the cover off and hooking up power using clip leads.  Kind of messy.

I found the right power connectors.  This is an Amphenol 3 pole female mini-XLR with locking ring.  Part number AG3FL.  It fits great.

So now I am going through all 19 GPS units and plugging in each one, letting it run for about 30 minutes to get the GPS almanac updated and settle in.  Some take longer than others.

There is a group on Yahoo Groups which has the serial software, the manual and other stuff for these units, which is really helpful.  They have instruction about how to set them up for APRS tracking.
