One more evil capacitor

[Today’s run:  5 miles]

We were using the bigscreen Pelco monitor the other day and I left it plugged in (and off) when we were done.

Modern monitors and televisions which use a remote control are never really “off” while they are plugged into the wall.  Anything which is sitting there, waiting for you to push the “on” button of the remote control must have something going on or it would not be able to respond to the remote!

Leaving the Pelco plugged in resulted in a monitor which would not come on when I pushed the power button.  Uh-oh.  So we took the cover off and I looked at the power supply even more closely.  Did I miss a bad capacitor?  Had one of our replacements gone bad already?

After some close examination, and replacement of one capacitor which probably is not bad, I then found the bad guy.  Instead of being rounded and puffy on the top, this fellow decided to blow out the bottom toward the circuit board.  Very sneaky.

So, we got him changed out.  The monitor has been plugged in for about 20 hours now and it seems to be working ok.  I have been using it with my laptop. Fun!
