Vacuum tubes

[Yesterday: 5 miles, today zero]

We are working on an old console radio that my wife got from a local acquaintance.  It’s a Slivertone.  The folks it came from had taken the electronic guts out and refinished the wooden parts.  Then I think they got stuck.  We don’t have the knobs or the bezel.  We do have the chassis which has all of the tubes in t.

Tonight we got out the old tube tester and tested those tubes.  About half need to be replaced.  We have a hamfest coming up and are going to take the tube list and the capacitor list to the hamfest to see if we can get those parts.

If the hamfest doesn’t have them, there are online sources which will do the job, no problem.

I have also been piling up a bunch of stuff to take to the hamfest to sell.  I am hoping to liquidate stuff that I am not using and maybe accumulate enough to buy an Elecraft K2.

The single biggest item is the cesium frequency standard.  I’ve decided that being Mr. Atomic Time was really not my goal in life.  But, surely someone out there is looking for the title!  Don’t get me wrong, I think it was a whale of a deal when I bought it and I have enjoyed working with it.  But I am thinking it is worth more than I am willing to support and would rather have something else.  So I am going to put a big price on it and find out.

Anyway, we dug through my boxes of tubes and found one replacement for a dud.  We have a list of 7 others, 5 which we definitely need to replace and 2 which would be a good idea to replace.
