Colorado Light

[Today’s run: white house, 3.x miles]

Here’s a picture from our trip to Colorado in early December 2012.

This is in the small town of Severance, looking south across a field toward a school.

Things are “wide-open” in the west.  I enjoy traveling back through Kansas and Eastern Colorado and experiencing the wide open spaces again.  One of my favorite areas is western Nebraska and the sand hills between Ogalala and Chadron.  It looks empty, but there are draws and gullies and streams that you can’t see at first glance.  All sorts of stuff can be out there.

The light in Colorado is different too.  The sky seems more blue (as long as you are away from the smog of Denver).

Here in Mississippi I think the early morning light sometimes has a mystical quality to it, almost like the Colorado sky.  But in Colorado I think it happens more regularly.

And the horizon in Mississippi is almost always obscured by trees.  It is sometimes hard to tell if the ground is flat or hilly because of all the trees.
