Kind of hot

[Today’s run:  11 miles with BoardTown Running Club]

Two items about the heat today:

One:

Slogging along, walking, toward the end of today’s run.  The route takes me past a large metal water tank up on a metal stand, part of the rural volunteer fire department operations around here.  More than once I have wished I could stand under that spout and pull the cord and get a blast of that cool water.  Today, I was surprised to see water trickling from the spout in a steady stream.  Glorious!  I stood under the water for a few minutes and got well soaked.  Then I was able to run most of the rest of the run.

Two:

Earlier this evening the house was starting to feel kind of warm.  I think we usually have it set around 78 but it had snuck up to 83.  I fiddled with the thermostat and that did nothing.  The air was blowing but it was not very cold.  I went outside and the compressor was not running.  I wiggled the jumper bar in the cheap switchbox on the wall of the house and it came on.  I then pulled out the jumper bar and tried to adjust the springy fingers so that they connect better.  Since then I have not been able to get the compressor to run again.  I wonder if I messed something up by fooling around with the jumper bar while the system was on.   Using the multimeter, I don’t see any voltage at the jumper bar box at all, so I think something is wrong with the control circuits.    Opened the windows.  Got fans running.  I hope we can sleep tonight and who knows what tomorrow will bring.

[One thing about living in the north:  you can always start a fire on the living room floor.  That kind of option doesn’t exist for dealing with the heat.]

Later:

Went out again with the multimeter and now I see 240VAC.  I think I had been measuring on the compressor side of the jumper.  Used wire-nuts to attach the wires and bypass the cheap jumper bar thingy.  Now the compressor is running. We are hoping the indoor temp will start to come down soon.
