Today’s Run:  Rest Day

Five Guys famous burgers and fries are getting to be just that~famous.

We first ran across Five Guys when we lived in Colorado.  We had heard great things about their burgers but the real reason we ended up giving them a try was because of their fries.  We love good fries and a good fry is hard to find.

When my parents lived in Ontario, they had a mall.  In that mall parking lot was a “Chip Wagon”.  The chip wagon consisted of a fair food booth with a cutting board, a fryer and a lot of malt vinegar.  There was always a long line at the chip wagon and that was for a very good reason~they made the best chips (aka: fries) I have ever had in my life.

You would finally get your turn at the chip wagon window and place your order: Small, Medium or Large.  That was it, they did not sell anything else.  No sodas, no sandwiches, just chips.  They would cut the fresh potatoes in front of you and fry them right in front of you, salt them a bit, stick them in a cardboard box and hand you the malt vinegar.  Fresh, hot, delicious!

Guess what Five Guys does?  They cut fresh potatoes (albeit, not right in front of you) fry them to order, not pre-made, salt them a bit and off you go to the malt vinegar.  Almost as good as the chip wagon!  Not too shabby for a company out of Washington D.C.!

The thing that we always enjoy about Five Guys is “The Sign”.  Each day they have a white board announcing from where the day’s potatoes came. Now, seeing as my daughter and I were out running errands today, we decided that a trip to Five Guys was in order for some fries.  So, just FYI:  today’s potatoes came from American Falls, Idaho.
