Today’s Run: 60 min lifting at the “Y”
I am reading a book: “The Mitrokhin Archive and the Secret History of the KGB”. It is a big book full of Russian names that are hard to pronounce and I think it is full of “hooey”.
The premise of the book (supposedly an expose’ of the KGB) is a gentleman who retired from service from the KGB, who supposedly smuggled highly classified documents from headquarters for 30 years and hid them under the floorboards of his house. Apparently, he then stuffed a suitcase with said papers and waltzed out of mother Russia at the height of the Cold War and went to Britain and handed all these papers over to authorities and wrote this damning book. Uh huh. And during all of these 30 years of smuggling, scribbling down and literally copying and typing up documents, he never got stopped and searched, raised suspicions or anything. Uh huh.
I am sure that there is probably some nugget of truth in these pages but if they want me to believe that there was only one Russian “spy” operating in the U.S.A. between 1918 and WWII, I’ll eat my hat!
Anyway, I am reading this book and am having a difficult time with it and seeing as it is not due back to the library until Dec. 6, I see a trip back to the library looming in the near future. This is on my do not read list.
