Today’s Run: 50 Min lifting at the “Y”
This coming Saturday is the annual Turkey Trot at Mississippi State University (MSU). They hold a *5K and *8K every year. It is the grand finale of their C25K program (couch to 5K).
The C25K program is a wonderful tool for getting people involved in the sport of running. That is how my sister and I got started a year ago. Basically, the program starts with the participant walking for a period of a minute and running/jogging for 30 seconds. You do that for a couple of days and then you walk for 45 seconds and run for 45 seconds and so on…until. eight weeks later, you run a 5K race! Pretty cool, huh!?!
So, this Saturday at 8:00 am we will toe the line, along with my husband and run! My sister is doing the 5K and my husband and I will run the 8K. We all have 60 minutes to complete the course, regardless of 5K or 8K distance. We will bring our 3 canned good items a apiece (it is a canned food drive also) and run! At the end of the race, we will feel like we accomplished something and feel better about ourselves for doing it.
(Running is a wonderful aerobic activity. Little overhead expense~just a good pair of shoes). You can join a running club and make new friends. You can enjoy the solitude and get lost in your thoughts. “Me time”. Can’t beat it! Plus it’s good for the waistline!)
*5K=3.1 miles *8K=4.96 miles
