Today’s Run: 13.1 miles
Today was the day that we FINALLY ran that half marathon. It was called the LEO Run to Remember and boy, was it a run to remember!
This was my very first half marathon. I have done some 5K’s, 10K’s and one 12K, but this was my first “long distance” race. My husband has done the 5K, 10K and 12K distances along with three half marathons and also a few full marathons. So, this was a walk in the park for him.
We had a few concerns about this race. The big one was the hills. They were huge! And there were a lot of them. The second concern was traffic control. Almost half of the race was on a four lane highway. Scary. The hills, well, training for those was our responsibility. The traffic control was out of our hands. They did an excellent job of traffic control and as far as training was concerned, we were well prepared.
We were hoping to finish the course in 3 1/2 hours, maybe 4. We finished the race in 2:56! Yeah! Under our expected time!
My sister drove two hours (with our son, a friend and our niece and one nephew) just to take our picture as we crossed the finish line! Cool Beans! That was an excellent thing to do! So a huge thank you to all who rode in the car to cheer us on!
