50 Mile/100k Training Time

I can’t believe it’s time to be training for my B2B ultras!  For the past year, I’ve known these races were coming and BOOM! Here we are, getting started on training for the first of two events, a 50 Miler in Texas, a mere 8 weeks away!

Nothing like cutting it a little close, eh?

This 50 miler is no stranger to us.  As a matter of fact, this will be our 3rd year in a row running these trails.  TROT (Trail Racing Over Texas) never disappoints.  They always put on a quality event and the Brazos Bend December race is the icing on the cake!

We completed the 50 mile distance there two years back and will be returning to run the 50 mile distance again.  I can’t wait to run these trails!!!  The thing that makes it even more exciting is my friend, Shobal, has agreed to pace me for my last loop!  We’ve run together so many times on training runs so this will be a blast!!!

We started our training for Brazos 2 weeks ago.  After a little over a week recovery from Barkley Fall Classic, we started back up with short and easy runs to get our legs and body ready for the soon to come BIG miles!  I very serious love the BIG miles!!!

6 weeks after running Brazos Bend 50M, we’ll be heading to the panhandle of Florida (if there’s anything left after today’s hurricane!  Stay safe everyone!!!) for Bear Bait Ultras!

Last year I ran Bear Bait for the first time.  Holy Cow that was fun!!!  Holy Cow that was COLD!!!

This kid was seriously under-dressed for the race day weather.  Who knew we’d be running in single digit wind chill all day!?!  I mean, it’s FLORIDA!!!

Still a totally awesome event!  This year they’re offering the 100k distance for the first time so of course I had to register for it!  I’ll have 19 hours to complete the 62+ miles.

Bear Bait is a 4+ mile looped course around a beautiful lake.  It’s mostly single track trails and just a fun, fun course!  Plus, it has flush toilets at the S/F!  YAY for real bathrooms!!!  #ItsTheLittleThings

Once these two events are completed, I’m thinking a little down time will be in order?  As much as I love to run, resting is a necessary (and often welcome) part of training and we need to respect that as much as grinding out the training miles.

*I’m still looking for pacers for Bear Bait.  If you feel like a lap or two this coming January, give me a shout!  I’m allowed a pacer my last three loops OR when the sun goes down.*
