Coke 10k~Duck Weather Racing

I’ve never been one to complain about running in the rain. In reality, I try to make a game out of it.  I figure if the ducks enjoy the rain then I should, too!

A large group of my Mississippi running friends (#MScoffeerunners) and I headed north this past Friday to run the Coke 10k in Corinth, Mississippi. The weather forecast was not looking especially friendly for race day but we all threw caution to the wind and drove up anyway.  We weren’t going to let a little rain spoil our fun!

In reality, we had a two fold purpose for heading to Corinth.  We were all running to honor the memory of a sweet friend who had passed two years ago while running a popular Half Marathon in the Jackson area.  Ever since then, we’ve dedicated our May miles to this sweet woman.  She was a terrific encourage-er to many women in Mississippi to work towards improving their quality of life through fitness and her passing made an impact on many!  The Coke 10k was the race we elected to run in honor of this woman.

Upon arriving in Corinth, my sister and I headed over to the new “Selfie Wall.”  The city had just finished this painting and had been promoting it a bit on social media.  Because I am “that” person, I HAD to see it and take my pic.  This is the result of that visit:

*and yes, I am painfully aware that this kid cannot jump!  LOL!!!*

Soon it was time for the pre~race dinner and we all headed over for that.  What a fun evening!  It was great to see so many friends.  However, these three remarkable women surprised the socks off me!  They managed to keep secret that they were heading up for the dinner AND the race!!!  When they walked in Friday evening, I was in complete shock and soooo tickled to see them! Talk about three amazing friends!!!

Just a few more pics from the dinner Friday evening.  We had so much fun!!!

As promised, it poured race day morning.  What a riot!!!  We were wearing plastic bags before the race to keep quasi~dry.  I don’t know why we runners do this?  We all know we’re going to be soaked to the skin in no time…funny stuff!

Even with the rain Mother Nature decided to share with us, we had soooo much fun!!!  The Coke 10k is always a great event and this year, it was no different.  Top. Notch. Event.  BEST 10k in Mississippi!!!  This guy, the Race Director, deserves a lot of credit for the quality of this race! Thank you Kenneth, for all you do for Mississippi running!!!

If you have the opportunity to travel to Corinth, Mississippi, in May, I highly recommend this race!  Rain or shine, it’s always a great time!!!
