Today’s Run: .53 miles
We just returned from a vacation to Iowa and made two excursions to the Iowa State Fair. The Iowa State Fair is considered the crem de la crem, the epitome, the very bestest of State Fairs and it took us two whole days to see all it had to offer. The newspaper in Iowa prints schedules of events for each day, so we obtained a copy and made our plans.
The top of the list was, of course, the butter cow. We arrived early and did not have to wait in line so see it. Next was the bees and some honey lemonade. We had to have a pork chop on a stick, fried snickers bar, a tenderloin, another fried snickers bar…
We even entered some events. I entered the women’s rubber chicken throwing contest and received a yellow ribbon and we both entered the grape stomping contest and got third place ribbons.
We saw livestock and the parade of champions. There was a horse pull, I milked a cow and we bought ice cream (we ate a lot!). We saw a very large moose made from chocolate moose (sp?).
The varied industries building was packed as usual and we visited the GARBC booth and talked with an old pastor friend of ours.
Of course we went through “Ye Ol’ Mill” and did what you are supposed to do there!
All in all, the Iowa State Fair is all it is cracked up to be. It really does take more than one day to see it all. What a great time!
