1923

One thousand, nine hundred and twenty-three  That’s how many miles I’ve run in 2016 as of today.

Last year I participated in the RunTheEdge run 2015 miles in 2015.  In 2014 I ran somewhere between 1600-1800 miles.  I’m thinking it was closer to 1600.  I could get up out of my chair and look it up but I’m too lazy to do it at the moment.

I had decided towards the end of 2014 to try for 2000 miles in 2015.  A FB friend had heard about the RTE challenge and said I should do it. “It’s only another 15 miles.  You could do it!”

I signed up.

January 1 arrived and I hit the ground running.  I had some miles to cover and was already feeling the pressure of such a huge mileage goal. *huge for me mileage goal*  I ran and I ran and I ran.

I was registered for a marathon in February and a 50K in March so I was training for those two races.  Once the 50K was done, I had a little “free time” to collect some miles.

Berlin Marathon training was scheduled to begin in July.  I knew I’d be facing a taper for that and travel time as well.  It would take a big bite out of my miles so all summer I ran and ran and ran.

I was soooo afraid of not hitting that 2015 mile goal!

Turns out, I didn’t need to be afraid.  I think by the end of December I was just a few miles shy of 2400 for the year.

I was tired.  Boy, was I ever tired!

RunTheEdge offered the same challenge for 2016!  Everybody was asking if I was going to do it again.  It’s a great challenge but I had already decided that 2016 was going to be all about running because it’s fun.  I didn’t want the pressure of trying to hit a mileage goal.

Don’t get me wrong, I love setting a goal!  I’m one of “those” runners who constantly needs a goal to maintain their motivation.  That’s one of the reasons I’m usually registered for at least 2-3 races at one time.  I’m weird that way.  LOL!

In 2016 my goal has been to be well prepared for all of my events.  Which brings us back to my total miles for this calendar year.

1923.  Good grief!  That’s a LOT of miles.

You know what?  I’ve loved every. single. one of them!

I’ve loved the easy miles.  I’ve loved the cold, windy miles.  I’ve loved the rainy miles and the super hard miles.

There’s just something about lacing up your shoes and spending time on the road.  Doesn’t matter if it’s solo miles or with a buddy.  It’s just totally awesome!

There’s about, what, 6 weeks left in 2016?  Do you think I’ll make it to 2016 miles?  I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!

2016 has been a fabulous year!!!
