Strange Weeds and Sticky Eyes

Today’s Run:  3.21 miles (hot and humid!)

The past week, as we have been driving into town, we have passed this strange looking weed.  It is quite unique and I decided that I wanted to try to paint it.  That meant getting a closer look at it and a photograph of it.  And that meant getting out of the car and into the heat/humidity.

Yesterday was the day to brave the elements and get a closer look at the weed.  It is really quite pretty!  The stems are red and the leaves are part green/part red.  Then it has these “tassels” that are red with green balls on them.  I am not doing this plant justice, which explains why I needed to get a photo of it.

The problem with getting the photo was The Ditch!  There is a large ditch dividing the road bed from the yard where this plant is growing.  Hmmm…I tried to take a pic from the road by myself.  No good.  Too far away.  That meant I had to bug my husband because I am too short to jump the ditch.  Bummer!

So, last night after dinner, my husband and I drove down the road to where the plant grows.  Then my husband jumped the ditch and took the photos I have been wanting all week!  Yeah!!!

This morning, both of us woke up with unhappy, sticky eyes.  We tried and tried to figure out what the problem was and the only thing we can think of was that weed!  Is not it funny how just a little bit of exposure to a new plant can cause something like unhappy eyes?  Well, I hope that when it is painted, it is a little bit more friendly to the eyes than it is in real life.
