I know it’s a Friday night and most people are not reading blogs on Friday evenings but so much has happened that if I wait until later to post, I’ll forget! That would be tragic. 😉
We will start with my feet. Exciting subject to be sure. No nasty feet pics. Promise!
Saw the foot guy late yesterday afternoon. Didn’t realize when I made the appointment that he was a runner! Cool Beans!
He looked at my feel and made “tsk, tsk” noises. I guess he knew my feet were killing me. Not my feet, really, just those nasty toenails! They’ve been giving me fits since high school. Waaay before my running days.
He pulled the ingrown part out. Literally. That hurt. A lot! He clipped it waaaaay back and then yanked that puppy out. Ouchers!!! After he did that (while I was trying to act like a cool cucumber~like I didn’t feel like I wanted to curl up in a corner and sob) he took a dremel and made the nails nice and thin. He said I needed to come back every 6-8 weeks for him to keep the nails in this condition. That way they wouldn’t bother me when I was running. Then he said…..
He thought it would be a good idea to for me to have my toenails removed. As in not grow back, removed!
I have heard of people having this done. I guess I was just surprised that it was something that would be a good idea for somebody like me. He wants to do if after my June marathon. He needs a window of 2 weeks where I won’t be running more than say, 25 miles a week. I can’t remember the last time I had a 25 mile week! Sounds like a vacation! 🙂
Moving on from feet…
Paxton got mail yesterday! Can you believe that!?! Hahaha!!! For me to tell you about this, I need to back track~to 1980.
I was a FR in college in 1980. My spring semester, we noticed one of our professors trudging around campus. He had on sweats and some cheap sneakers. He was working hard to make it around the campus. We didn’t think a thing of it. He was tall and kinda pudgy.
When we returned to campus fall of 1981, there was this tall, lanky man zipping around campus. He was in split running shorts and some pretty sweet running shoes! It was the same professor! He had really trimmed down and was running fast!!!
By the time I graduated in 1984, he had qualified and run Boston twice. An amazing man and an amazing runner. He is a quiet encourager to me in my running. He is on my FB FL and every now and then he’ll drop me a note saying, “Go get ’em” and stuff like that. He recognizes the work it takes to be a “late bloomer” to running.
ANYWAY, the mail that came for Paxton was from this man! He has seen pics of my silly dog wearing the same ol’ necktie and decided that Paxton needed a new tie. He mailed Paxton a very nice tie. It is a Charlie Brown tie with all of the characters running a road race! How perfect is that!?!
Here is a collage of Paxton getting his tie. The top pic is of Paxton sitting patiently while MFH (My Favorite Husband) ties the tie in a Windsor knot so Paxton will look extra spiffy!
Of course, Paxton being Paxton insists on wearing BOTH of his ties. Goofy dog.
MFH knew I was wanting/needing a hydration pack for my upcoming 50 mile race. For my 50K’s, I only used a 20 oz handheld. This worked just fine. After carrying 20 oz of water/Gatorade, no matter how many times you switch hands during the course of your race, your arms are toast.
A 50K is 31.68 miles. My last 50K took me 7 hrs. The 50 mile I’m scheduled to run I have a time limit of 12 hours. I will come close to using the entire 12 hrs. The thought of carrying that handheld for 12 hrs was not appealing. I asked MFH for a hydration pack for Christmas.
I did quite a bit of online searches and also asked on the various Trail and Ultra online communities that I was a part of. The women were great! The guys had their standard favorites but a lot of them are BIG guys! I am not a big guy. I am 4’11”. The women came through with flying colors and almost to a person they recommended the one I got.
I got the Ultimate Direction: Jenny Collection. The hard part about finding these things is finding them in your size. I needed an extra small. The women online warned me they run small. I listened but ordered an x-sm anyway. And am I ever glad I did! This thing fits like a dream! If I would have ordered a regular sm, it would have been too big. Whew!
It came today. MFH gave it to me early because my 50 Miler training begins this Sunday and on Wednesday I have my first long run of 22 miles. I’ll be needing something to drink along the way. Can’t wait to take it for a spin!!!
The Gateway to the Delta 10 Miler I ran last Saturday put out their race pics this morning. Free! I love free race pics!!! I found one with two of my Mississippi running friends. I had met one of them a couple of times before but we hadn’t raced together since March of this year. It was great to see her again! The other lady, well, we chat online all the time but this was the first time I got to meet her IRL. What a treat!!!
Maybe that IS all the news. I’m probably forgetting tons of stuff but I’ll quit blabbering for now. Have yourselves a super weekend and happy running!!! #IRun4Aiden
