Independence Day

Today’s Run:  Rest Day

Today is the 4th of July, 2012.  I tuned into NPR this morning for the express purpose of listening to their annual reading of the Declaration of Independence.  There is just something about listening to that piece of literature and find myself being amazed at the “audacity” of our countrymen who declared themselves a separate entity from Great Britian.  That took nerve.

As I do every year, I wonder about our Country now and it’s political health.  Back then people took a big step to stand up against the tyranny they saw being leveraged against them.  They did not back down.  If we were in the same position today, would we have what it took to take the same stance that was taken back then?  I wonder…

But now we celebrate!  Hot dogs, watermelon, ice cream, BBQ, fireworks…the list is endless the way we celebrate and celebrate we do!  I trust you spent a little part of your day being thankful for the stance those brave people took 236 years ago today and for the sacrifices made.

We also celebrated my nephew’s 14 birthday!  Happy Birthday to John!!!
