This morning was my last race until my Marathons start in the fall. This September, I will be traveling to Germany to run the Berlin Marathon and then in October to Arlington, Virginia, for the Marine Corp Marathon. I am embarrassed to say that I already have two races scheduled for next year as well! HA!
Anyway, this morning was my last race for this spring. It was a 10K. The Coke 10K in Corinth, Mississippi.
This is THE 10K for Mississippi. There is another 10K next weekend in Tupelo that thinks it’s pretty hot stuff and to be honest, there is kind of a rivalry between the two races. Funny, really. But in all honesty, the Coke 10K wins, hands down. I can’t explain it…just trust me. 🙂
Now, the 10K distance is a difficult distance for me. Why? Because the race is so doggone short! It’s only 6.2 miles and I’m just getting warmed up by the time the race is over. Give me a marathon or an Ultra any day of the week. Running a 10K…you have to belt it out from the time the gun goes off until you cross the finish line. There is no room for error.
I guess I like to enjoy the scenery. HA!
It was like a family reunion today in Corinth. Lots and lots and lots of friends there. It was so much fun to see everybody again and to catch up on what all had been happening and seeing who had what races pending…we all talked like crazy!
I was looking for a few people specifically. I found all of them except for one. It was funny with him because this was the third race we have both run and we have missed each other every. single. time. When I was checking out of the hotel, my cell phone rang and it was him. “We missed each other again.” he said. Someday we’ll get our ducks in a row…
One lady in particular I was wanting to meet. I was looking for her before the race but didn’t see her. I figured to myself, “Oh well…” I’ll let my post to my Irun4 buddy, Aiden, tell the rest of the story…
Aiden ~ I loved seeing your pic after the race this morning. Made my day!!! Thought I’d tell you this funny (to me, anyway) story. This tall lady is a friend of mine even though we had never met before today. We wanted to meet before the race but it didn’t work. I figured, “Oh well…” The race started and I was running as fast as I could when behind me I heard somebody shout, “Mel!” It was this lady in the black shirt, the friend I had been trying to find before the race! We were both running and she said, “Let’s take a selfie.” I don’t know about you, but I have never tried to pose for a pic while running a race before. Have you ever tried to smile for the camera while running as fast as you can? No, Me neither. But that is what is happening in this pic. Haha! What do you think? Did we do okay? Your pic is on my back so you could see all the people. Lots of people told me to tell you “Hi!” and that you are quite the handsome guy! But you already knew that, didn’t you? 😉 Rest well tonight! Love you tons! Hugs from me and Paxton sends his puppy kisses 🙂
