Where’s Waldo?

Back in 1987, a UK Author named, Martin Handford, created some children’s books.  They were illustrations that were very small and colorful.  They were of people, animals, places and things.  In each illustration, you would find one, and only one, Waldo.

Your mission was to find Waldo.

Waldo.1987

Maybe some of you have tried to find Waldo in those books.  I was not too terribly successful in my efforts to find Waldo, that is, until #1 Daughter got a hold of our Where’s Waldo book.

#1 Daughter was born in 1988 and #1 Son in 1989, right when the Where’s Waldo fever was at it’s peak.

When they were close to Kindergarten age, MFH (My Favorite Husband) purchased the two their very first Where’s Waldo book.  They spent hours pouring over the pages trying to find Waldo.

#1 Daughter eventually laid exclusive claim to the book until she found every single Waldo.  After she had found Waldo, she said we could have our turn.

That kid guarded that book like it was gold.  Spent hours going over each and every page, peering intently, trying to locate Waldo.

Finally, one day, she announced that she had succeeded.  She had found all the Waldo’s and handed the book over to her very impatient brother.  He had been waiting a looooong time for his turn at that book.

Shortly after #1 Son had gained possession of the book, I heard screaming coming from both kids.  They were arguing and it sounded serious.  I hurried to where the commotion was taking place.

#1 Son had the Where’s Waldo book.  He was waving it around angrily.  #1 Daughter was standing her ground.  She didn’t seem to think there was any problem but #1 Son was most indignant!

Finally, I got to the source of the argument.

#1 Daughter is very thorough.  Meticulous, if you will.  In her quest to locate every. single. Waldo. she had left nothing to chance.  After she had successfully located Waldo on a page, she had taken a permanent marker and circled Waldo.  That way, she wouldn’t forget where he was!

Made perfect sense to her.

It made #1 Son very, very angry!

Haha!!!

We ended up purchasing another Where’s Waldo book just for #1 Son.  He got dibs on it first and returned the favor to his sister.

Ah, kids…

Here’s a pic from a Where’s Waldo book.  Happy hunting!!!
