Every year, our running group holds a New Year’s Day party at 12:00 (noon o’clock). I think it is at noon because it gives the people who partied the night before a mini chance to recovery before we all get together.
Yesterday, we had a huge turnout! We had about 75 adults and a bunch of little kids there. Everybody comes to this event.
Every year, the people who host, rent a big inflatable jumping house for the “sprouts” to go and play on. They kids have a ball! You can hear them laughing and shrieking inside~the “little’s” have a great time.
Inside, you will find a group of runners of all shapes and sizes, talking about their upcoming races. What their running goals will be for the new year. They will be discussing shoes. Training…
And they will be eating! Runners can put away an amazing amount of food!!!
We all arrive, our food offering of the day in hand (it is a covered dish event) and lay everything out on a few tables. We go and get a glass of wine or a beer and start talking.
It is fun!
So, I was chatting with a lady that I had run with at Ragnar-TN. She and I both agree that we are glad we ran Ragnar but probably wouldn’t do it again. It was a “Once is enough.” type of a race.
We were chatting, husbands by our sides when this guy comes up. He is a super nice guy but he intimidates the socks off me. He is a very serious Ultra runner. Just always Very. Serious. I usually shrink into a corner when I see him coming.
Yesterday, he came right up to me. He looked at me in amazement and blurted out, “I didn’t recognize you! You look fabulous! You’ve almost completely disappeared~you’re so thin!!!”
I kinda just stood there, mouth hanging open. I mean, what do you say? How do you reply? It was super, super nice though!!! Totally made my day! 🙂
I stammered a thank you and frantically looked for an escape.
The rest of the party I was on cloud nine. I can’t think of a better way to kick off 2015 than with an awesome compliment like that. May you have a Happy New Year as well!!!
Here’s to 2015! Cheers!!!
