You Just Never Know…

I’m going to share a story with you today.

#1 Son called a couple of days ago.  He is involved in a few local group where he has made some friends.  This has been good to see.

Anyway, one of his friends began running this past spring.  On a lark, he signed up for a Half Marathon that was to be held the last day of August.  August in Mississippi is pretty toasty.  This friend was struggling with his training due to the heat/humidity we have here.

He dropped out of the race.  Quit training.  Quit running.  He was discouraged and felt like a failure.

About that time, #1 Son had shared at a group meeting about how I had successfully completed my first 50K the end of July~also in Mississippi.  That was a super hot day.  Brutal race.  The friend was at that particular meeting.

After the meeting, this person came up to #1 Son and asked, “How old is your mom?”

My son replied, “52.”

During the meeting, this friend had Googled the distance of a 50K.  He wanted to know how many miles it was.  He was astounded that an “old lady” could run that far.

Thanks.  I think.

Anyway, that race gave this person a swift kick in the butt and got him back out on the road, running.  This past weekend, he completed his first Half Marathon!  Good for him!

At meeting this past week, he proudly showed #1 Son his medal and said, “I figured that if your Mom could run a 50K, I could run a Half Marathon.”

You just never know who you are going to encourage.

Keep on keeping on!
