Many of you probably feel like you know my family after following this blog for some time. You have heard a great deal about MFH (My Favorite Husband) and #1 Son, but the other important person in our family is #1 Daughter. The four of us, we make a good family!
As with any other family, there were the super times and the not so super times. The good thing about us, though, is that the not so super times have bonded us together in ways that not many other families can boast. We are unique. We are the snowflake of families. Special. At least we like to think that we are.
When #1 Daughter and #1 Son finished their High School years, MFH and I packed up and left them in college in Colorado. We moved to Mississippi. Abandonment? Not really. More a matter of survival. Colorado was hard on our family. The kids were strong. Resilient. Young. We were tired and ready for change and adventure. It worked for us. Still does!
After 2 years, #1 Son finished up his AA degree in Colorado and decided to relocate to Mississippi for his 4 year degree. Plus, I think he wanted to be closer to MFH and me.
#1 Daughter had started working. She had an apartment, roommate, cat, dog…She had become independent. Good for her!
Seeing as she was in Colorado and we were in Mississippi, we really did not have much of an opportunity to see her very often. The easiest way to reach her was to text. She worked a very demanding job. Was always on the move.
This past week, she asked if she could come down to visit for about 10 days. We jumped at the offer! We even bought her an airline ticket.
She is visiting with us now and we are having a great time. She is a super person. It amazes me how you bring home this little baby from the hospital and in a short 26 years, they turn into a responsible and pretty awesome adult!
The thing she is trying out during her visit with us is running. Seeing as both MFH and runners, she thought she would give it a try. I have lots of running gear so I gave her some. She put on some stuff and while I was changing into my own running clothes so we could run, she hurried into the living room and ran up to MFH and said, “Look! I look just like Mom!”
Wow! I mean, she is 26 and she still is watching what I do. Does a Mom ever stop being a Mom? Will she always have the drive and desire to be like me? That was a wake up call if there ever was one.
So, #1 Daughter is here for probably another 4-5 days. Depends on a few things. We are hoarding our time with her. Cherish the time you have with your kids. Go the extra mile for them. It pays dividends.
