Safety First

The baby chickens have made it two nights with the grown up chickens so I declare them moved out of the house~YAY!!!

They did open the new highway to traffic this morning around 9:00 am.  This is a sad morning for me as I have lost my favorite long run route.  BUT~ MFH (My Favorite Husband) went to our local pawn/gun shop and purchased a canister of pepper spray for me.

I will be doing a large majority of long runs, well any run for that matter, on secluded rural roads.  After last weeks encounter with the Great Danes and a couple of previous encounters with coyotes, we decided that I should probably run with some type of protection.  Enter pepper spray.

The pepper spray he bought me is 10%.  You can purchase some watered down stuff at WalMart, etc that is only 2% but I figured that if I needed it, I wanted it to work!  So, 10% it is.

It is pink!

I usually am not one to look at “feminine” colors or anything like that, but this is kinda cute!  It has a Velcro strap to go around your wrist.  Hands free running that way.  It should not get in the way of my carry water bottle.

Tomorrow, I will carry it on my run.  I do not have a huge run tomorrow, but the run where I encountered those dogs was not a huge run either.  Safety first!

Of course, the Pawn Shop carries guns and they had a cute .38 snub nose revolver.  How do you run and carry a gun!?!  No thank you.  I would probably shoot off my foot.   I do know you can get sports bras with holsters but that sounds very, very uncomfortable.  Nope, I’ll stick with the pepper spray.

So, to those of you who have been telling me to purchase the pepper spray, hopefully you will be content in the knowledge that I DO listen and I DID do something about it.  Thanks for all your kind words and expressing your concern about me running alone.
