Today’s Run: 60 min lifting at the “Y”
“…Our old Ford, our dear old Ford, though it’s a wreck, it’s all we can afford…”
Back in High School we did a skit and two classmates sang this song in front of a pic an old Ford car. It looked like it was on its last legs. Well, we have a Ford, too. It is a 1985, F150, long bed pick-up truck. My husband picked it up at an auction for $800.00. After we put in a new engine, brakes, tires…it has turned into a reliable vehicle. We use it for hauling stuff and we let the neighbors use it, too. It is a nice “get to know your neighbor” vehicle.
The only real tricky thing left regarding this truck (aside from the transmission) is the fuel gauge. It has been in our experience that if the gauge says E is really means 1/2 full. But when it gets to the big red E, we fill it up anyway. It makes us feel better.
Today, my Son and I left town to go to Starkville (about 20 miles away) and the gauge said that we had a 1/4 tank of gas. No problem! And away we went. Got to Starkville, ran our errand and started home. Got two blocks and the truck starting singing to us, “Sputter, sputter, spit, sputter”. Oh-oh! We had actually run out of gas! Can you believe it!?! The gas gauge was right for once. The big red E really meant E!
Right about this time, the cavalry arrived in the form of my parents. We were just a few blocks away from their house and they came to our rescue with a gas can. They followed us to the gas station “Just to be sure.”, and we toddled on home. End of story.
