Today’s Run: 24.04 Miles
Math has never been my strong suit. To put it bluntly, I stink at math.
When I was in 4th grade, the school system introduced something called: New Math. New math was nothing more than a self study. They gave you a book or a flash card, told you the assignment and you were supposed to figure out on your own how to solve the equation. The answer was on the back of the card or in the back of the book.
My teacher, Mrs. McGrew (see, I still remember this woman’s name after all these years!), was a firm believer in the theory that we were all highly motivated little darlings and would figure out our fractions, long division or multiplication on our own. I must have been the exception to the rule. I looked at the answers in the back and copied them down. I learned nothing that entire year. I have paid dearly for that year as today, I am hopeless at math.
This brings us to today.
I ran today. It turned out to be a huge run. 24.04 miles. I was only scheduled to run 20 miles but due to my ineptitude in addition, I incorrectly added on a few extra miles. Boo.
It would be bad enough if I had just added the miles wrong as I was running, but I couldn’t even figure out the average time I ran…not even with the help of my Garmin! I will admit to not even looking at the average pace on my Garmin. When I logged my miles, I just automatically logged the average pace I always run. Did not give it another thought.
Needless to say, my pace was quite a bit above average today, as someone so kindly pointed out to me! Cool Beans on the faster pace! Boo on my math skills! Someday, I am going to learn how to multiply, divide, do fractions…someday!
