Today’s Run: Rest Day
I have Chickens. I have 9 chickens. All hens.
I have five Black hens, One black and White hen and three Little Red Hens. The little red hens are who we are going to discuss today.
My hens all have names. I have them for their ability to give me eggs, but they have names all the same. My black hens names: Ed Stakrispie, Diane, Hen Solo, Audrey Henburn and Rover. My Black and White hen is Gretta and my three Little Red Hens are: Larry, Daryl and Daryl. The name fits the bird. Trust me, the name really does fit the bird.
Larry, Daryl and Daryl, I must admit are my favorites. They are the last of my original 6 hens. They have been faithful layers and are almost cuddly. They are the first ones to greet me in the mornings and any time I come out to the coop with table scraps. They come running out of the coop, “Cluck, Cluck, Cluck” just as happy as can be. They are my favorites.
They are also my favorites because I love their names.
How many of you remember the Newhart show? It was the second (I think) Bob Newhart sitcom. The first one was The Bob Newhart Show.
Newhart has some seriously bent characters. It was a funny, funny, show~and a CLEAN~show! Loved it!!! My favorite characters were the brothers, Larry, Daryl and Daryl. Larry did all of the talking, Daryl and Daryl did not talk. Ever.
When Larry, Daryl and Daryl would appear, Larry would always say, “Hi! I’m Larry. This is my brother Daryl and this is my other brother Daryl.” The two Daryls would nod and touch their foreheads in acknowledgement of their introductions and life would go on. Very, Very funny! Here is a clip of their introduction:
So, anyway, when you have three Little Red Hens, what else are you supposed to name them. Yup, that is right…”They cluck every time I go out there, “Hi! I’m Larry…..”
