Today’s Run:  Traveling

Today has been a day of traveling.

We met with a MFP friend this morning at an omelet place.  Wonderful, wonderful omelet!  After breakfast, however, we found ourselves with 2-3 hours to kill before our flight.  What to do…

We found out about the New England Air Museum in close proximity to the airport and we decided to check it out.  They opened at 10:00 am~we arrived at 9:00 am so napped in the car until 10:00 (we are kinda worn out from all of this traveling.)

10:00 am.  The doors opened and in we went.  We paid our money, got our map of the museum and took off to explore.  It is quite the place!  Lots and lots of WWII planes, photos, gear, etc. in the beginning of the museum.  Being the history buffs that we are, we were hooked from the first display.

We came to some WWII bombers and they had the different sized bombs.  They were laying on the ground for you to oooh and aaah over.  Then you came to the 1,000 pound bomb.  That was BIG!  Bigger than me!  Impressive!

Shortly after the 1,000 pound bomb, we were admiring another WWII plane when this total stranger walked up to us and started telling us all about that particular plane.  She was very well informed about the plane, its crew, and its restoration.  She was passionate about her topic.  Come to find out, her husband was the guy in charge of restoring that particular plane.  Ah, that explains it.  Very nice lady.  We learned quite a bit from her.  Time that was well spent listening.

There was a school group of pre-schoolers getting to climb into a Coast Guard helicopter.  They were having a great time scampering around the place.

We saw WWI planes and the advances made in technology was astounding!  My grandfather fought against Poncho Villa in the WWI era and they were just beginning to use planes during that campaign for making maps.  Those types of planes were on display also.  Amazing how thing have changed.

We killed some time waiting for our flights in the museum and I would say it was time very well spent.  Educational and entertaining.  I would highly recommend it if you are ever in Hartford, Connecticut.

On the other hand, we flew in a large plane today from Hartford, Connecticut to Atlanta, Georgia and then in a “puddle jumper” from Atlanta home to Columbus, MS.

It is good to be home.
