Me~Do Hurdles!?!

Today’s Run:  9 miles

Me~do hurdles???  Well, kinda.

We set out to do our favorite route to Schaeffer’s Chapel (5 miles) and then add Limerock Road (4 miles) on to that route to get us to our grand total of 9 miles this morning.

You probably remember me telling you that they are widening the highway and we have been tip-toeing around construction phases on Hwy 45 South (trying our best to avoid construction) during this county project.  Today, we encountered activity during our run for the very first time.

They were laying down a bed of clay for the road bed.  They were laying down 6″-8″ of this dirt while we were running on it!  Interesting experience.  We checked with the construction guy at the beginning of our run and he said that as long as we stayed out of the way of the dump trucks we were welcome to run through the construction site.

So, we did!

They were dumping truck after truck load of dirt onto the new highway surface.  The trucks just kept on coming.  Not a break in the action!  Busy people.

We made it through the trucks on our way to the Chapel and headed back to go to Limerock Road.  But during our absence, they had been using a Bulldozer.  These things have big treads on them~or so I soon found out.

We had the privileged of running through the tread marks/indentations from the bulldozer.  Those tread indentations came up mid shin on me (I am vertically challenged).  I was really having to pick up my feet to keep from tripping.  I really felt that I could have been doing hurdles!

I discovered today that I am not cut out for track and field.  Hurdles are NOT for me.  Give me distance running any day!   Whew!  That was one tough run today!
