Today’s Run: Rest Day!
I am the master of the long, SLOOoow Run. I am a turtle~running through molasses. No “Speedy Gonzales” here (if you remember the old Bugs Bunny cartoons~”Speedy” was a regular character there.) I am Steady! Consistency is key!
This Saturday my longest (to date) run, hopefully not my slowest run is staring me in the face. The dreaded 20 miler.
My husband and I were figuring out our route for this Saturday’s run and discovered that our 20 miler is in reality going to be 21-22 miles. Ugh.
The furthest I have run throughout this marathon training has been 19 miles without stopping. For some reason anything beginning with a 2 is tweaking my poor little brain. I see a 2 at the front of my daily run total and I break out into a cold sweat. It is, in reality, only one more mile further than what I have already done, right!?!
An interesting thing happened today in relation to Saturday’s run. I am part of a on line running club and am the chapter leader for my state. One of the members of the state chapter asked to run part of Saturday’s run with my husband and myself! How awesome is that!?! So, we may be meeting up with her for seven miles on Saturday morning. That would be pretty cool.
So, the question is, how slow is slow? Pretty slow. I am hoping to complete this marathon in around six hours. S-L-O-W!!!
There is some new “research” out that suggests that running longer than 2-3 hours in training is all you need to prepare for a marathon. This confuses me. How am I supposed to be prepared for something that is going to take 6 hrs with only 2-3 hr duration runs? I am sure that the shorter runs are good for injury prevention and all but I think I want the time on the road so that my body is used to it…dunno…
Anyway!
Saturday is our 21 miler. We will begin our journey at 4:30 am and run until? Wish us luck!!!
