Today’s Run: Driving to Memphis and back
I got my cool new toy today!
We drove to Memphis, TN today to pick up my “new” Victrola. I am still doing research on it and can fill you in on all the nitty gritty details at a later time but this is a pretty awesome piece!
This is a National brand of Victrola. The National label was started by Thomas Edison himself and the label did not last for a very long time. That was common with start up companies during that era.
These Victrola’s were priced at around $300.00 and today you pick them up on the average of $400.00-$700.00. Let’s just say I paid SIGNIFICANTLY less than that!
It has all the parts except the crank and those are not very difficult to pick up. Pretty cool beans and chilled legumes!!!
This particular Victrola is circa 1898. It is very old, so when you look at the pic, remember just how old it is and that it has not been restored. Restoring an old radio/Victrola actually decreases the value of the piece. So, the patina of age is its beauty.
It is very late and I have been sitting in the truck all day. I think I will go to bed but I will show you a pic of it in my living room. It is nighttime so it is a little dark. I think it is a beautiful piece.
